Orono Real Estate
In the early 1800s, there was a small settlement approximately 80 km’s east of the city of Toronto and in 1856, this town was officially named Newcastle. A small-knit community, Newcastle remained small, an agriculture center, and a charming town until the 1900s when a sudden burst of development for residential properties expanded in and around the town. The expansion of housing was due to people wanting to work in Toronto, but still live in the country. In 1974, with many municipalities coming together to formulate the Region of Durham, Newcastle was incorporated into the mix and became the official eighth municipality. It wasn’t until 1993 that Newcastle was renamed Clarington, which the name was created from the two townships of Darlington & Clarke. The main urbanized areas of Clarington are Bowmanville (the largest), Orono, Courtice, and the Village of Newcastle. Smaller communities of Clarington include: Wilmot Creek, Bond Head, West Side Beach, Brownsville, Tyrone, Burketon, Taunton, Clarke, Starkville, Crooked Creek, Solina, Enfield, Salem, Enniskillen, Port Granby, Gaud Corners, Port Darlington, Hampton, Newtonville, Haydon, New Park, Kendal, Mitchell Corners, Kirby, Maple Grove, and Leskard.
Clarington is enticing to many people to live, work, and play here. Situated in close proximity to Lake Ontario, the nature-filled Oak Ridges Moraine and the farmlands that are under the protection of the Greenbelt, the opportunities to live life well in a variety of ways, makes Clarington one of the top picks for a combination of rural/urban living. Clarington residents uphold the rich history & heritage of the area through the arts community, art galleries, heritage buildings and museums with archives. There are many events throughout each season that focus on the intricate past and how Clarington has grown into what it is today. aa
Real estate for sale in Clarington is a fantastic mix of detached homes, duplexes and semi-detached houses of varying sizes to meet all family requirements, with a few special perks not found in other areas of Ontario. Homes for sale in Clarington are spacious, priced incredibly well and are few and far between, as many people love it here and remain in this area to firmly plant long term family roots. There are four school boards within Clarington that take care of all educational needs (Conseil Scolaire Viamonde French Language Public School, Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud French Language Separate School, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland & Clarington Catholic District School Board). The Durham College and University of Ontario Institute of Technology are also within easy access of Clarington.
The neighbourhood of Clarington provides walk-in clinics (Courtice Health Centre, Bowmanville Urgent Care & Clarington Urgent Care) and a community hospital (Lakeridge Health Bowmanville), plenty of shopping outlets, entertainment and the Newcastle Golf Course. Getting in & out and around Clarington is simplified with either private transportation (ONroute, Highway 401 & 407 Express Toll Route), the Car Pool Lots, GO Transit bus and rail services, and Durham Region Transit that connects to GO Transit services as well as the Bowmanville Park & Ride for GO Transit connections.
With access to a winery (Archibald’s Orchards and Estate Winery) and a brewery (Manantler Craft Brewery) along with farm-fresh markets (Allin’s Orchard & Country Market, Wilmot Orchards, Algoma Orchards and Gourmet Market, Watson’s Farms, Gallery on the Farm, Stapleton Farms, Knox’s Pumpkin Farm and Pingle’s Farmer’s Market), Clarington is the place to be! Cycling is a big part of life in Clarington and there are many cycling trails that skirt the waterfront, the rural areas and bike lanes within the urban areas. For a more challenging cycling outlet, the Oak Ridges Moraine provides many hills. Facilities and community halls around Clarington offer a variety of outlets for sports and fitness: The Alan Strike Aquatic & Squash Centre, Bowmanville Indoor Soccer and Lacrosse Bowl, Courtice Community Complex, South Courtice Arena, Newcastle & District Recreation Complex, Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, Orono Park Outdoor Pool and Darlington Sports Centre. Clarington is home to the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, the Bowmanville Zoo, Docville Wild West Park and Jungle Cat World. Clarington is full of nature and what better way to see it than to take the time to explore the over 21 km’s of recreation trails (the creek valleys and Ganaraska Forest are especially enjoyable).
One of the perks of living in Clarington is all of the cafes & sweet shops/bakeries that align themselves with the freshness and goodness of country, small community lifestyles. The Village Bake Shop (Dutch bakery), Brianna’s Sweet Treats (cake & pastry shop), The Toasted Walnut (homemade baked goods), Coffee and Cakes Patisserie, SerendipiTea Tea House (200 specialty teas, salads, sandwiches, Belgium waffles & desserts), Dewey’s Café (breakfast items, soups, baked sweets and specialty sandwiches), Orono Country Café (restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner menu items & coffee) and Rustic Bake House (homemade, classic recipes bakery).
